Prepares prospective healthcare technicians to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Clinical Medical Assistant

 

Prepares prospective healthcare technicians to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical aspects of a medical office. Instruction includes preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, pharmacology, taking and documenting vital signs, technical aspects of phlebotomy, the 12-lead EKG and the cardiac life cycle. 

Dental Assisting

 

Prepares individuals for entry level positions as a chair side dental assistant. The content covers the history of dentistry, introduction to the dental office, the legal aspects of dentistry, oral anatomy, dental operatory, tooth structures, primary and permanent teeth, the oral cavity, and other areas.  

ICD-10-CM Medical Coding

 

Effective October 1, 2015, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will require that the standard ICD-9 code sets, which are used in medical billing and coding to report health care diagnoses and procedures, be replaced by ICD-10. This move from ICD-9 to ICD-10 will have a significant impact on healthcare providers and on the process by which they receive reimbursement. The adoption of ICD-10 will create enormous challenges for the U.S. healthcare system and the requirements of medical coding. Medical coding professionals keep records, calculate patient charges, and review files. This Medical Coding ICD-10-PCS course reviews key elements of the changes from ICD-9-PCS to ICD-10-PCS and examines the impact of this change on the U.S. healthcare system.

Medical Billing & Coding

 

Offers the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, how to manually file claims (using the CPT and ICD-10 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims, and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures. Covers: CPT (Introduction, Guidelines, Evaluation and Management), specialty fields (surgery, radiology, laboratory), ICD-10 (Implementation and Guidelines) and basic claims processes for medical insurance and 3rd party reimbursements. Students will learn how to find the service and codes using manuals (CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS).

 

EKG Technician

 

Prepares individuals to perform EKG’s.  This course will include information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography, and stress testing.  

Phlebotomy Technician

 

Provides the skills to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis.  Content includes a review of blood collection, the skills needed to perform venipunctures and other collection techniques.  The content also includes terminology, blood collection procedures, order of draw and other topics.  Note: the state of California requires approval of all Phlebotomy Technician programs.

Medical Administrative Assistant

 

Covers information on the medical assisting profession, interpersonal skills, medical ethics and law, medical terminology, basics of insurance billing and coding, telephone techniques, scheduling appointments, medical records management and management of practice finances.  A great option for physicians medical office professionals!  

 Electronic Health Record Management 

 

Prepares students to understand & use electronic records in a medical practice. Topics include a review of the implementation and management of electronic health information using common electronic data interchange systems and maintaining the medical, legal, accreditation and regulatory requirements of the electronic health record.  

Dialysis Technician

 

Provides a detailed introduction to the knowledge needed to perform the responsibilities of a Dialysis Technician.  It reviews normal kidney physiology, the basic principles of hemodialysis, kidney dialysis machines, dialyzer preparation and reprocessing as well as how to assist dialysis patients in managing their disease and treatment.   

Medical Terminology

 

A guide to identifying and understanding the basic word structure, root words, suffixes, and prefixes, the organization of the human body and the associated systems, medical abbreviations, symbols and common medical terms.

Assisted Living Technician

 

Prepares individuals for work in assisted living facilities. Offers the skills needed for eldercare and caring for persons with disabilities. Course focuses on nutrition, special diets, infection control, hospice care, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, dressing and personal grooming, foot care, nutrition and other relevant topics. 

Personal Care Assistant

 

Offers the skills needed to provide eldercare, caring for persons with disabilities, and in-home personal care for patients recovering from surgery or temporary ailments. Will provide a guide to working with ill persons, basic human needs, eldercare, nutrition, special diets, and home management.
