Pharmacy Technician​

Prepares students to enter the pharmacy field and to pursue certification including the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam.

 

Clinical Medical Assistant

Trains students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes among other things preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy, and the 12 lead EKG and the cardiac life cycle. 

 

Dental Assisting

Familiarizes students with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice. Topics include: history of dentistry and dental assisting; introduction to the dental office; the legal aspects of dentistry; policies and guidelines.  

 

Medical Billing & Coding

Offers the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, how to manually file claims (using the CPT, ICD-9 and ICD-10 manuals), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims, and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures. 

 

EKG Technician

Prepares students to function as EKG Technicians and to take the ASPT – Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam and other National Certification Exams.  Includes important practice and background information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography, and stress testing. 

 

Electronic Health Record Management

Prepares students to understand and use electronic records in a medical practice. Access to health information is changing the ways doctors care for their patients.  Topics include a review of the necessary components consistent with maintaining the medical, legal, accreditation and regulatory requirements of the electronic health record and database. 

 

Phlebotomy Technician

Prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology; blood collection procedures; specimen hands-on practice; and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods. 

 

Medical Administrative Assistant

Covers important background information on the medical assisting profession and interpersonal skills, medical ethics and law, medical terminology, basics of insurance billing and coding, telephone techniques, scheduling appointments, medical records management and management of practice finances. This program is intended to provide students with a well-rounded introduction to medical administration to provide the necessary skills required to obtain a medical administrative assistant position in the healthcare field.

 

Dialysis Technician

Provides the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties required of Dialysis Technicians. Under the supervision of physicians and registered nurses, Dialysis Technicians operate kidney dialysis machines, prepare dialyzer reprocessing and delivery systems as well as maintain and repair equipment. 

 

Medical Terminology

A comprehensive guide to identifying, analyzing, and understanding the basic word structure, root words, suffixes, and prefixes. Topics also include instruction in the organization of the human body and the associated systems, major drug classifications, diagnostic tests and treatment procedures, medical abbreviations and symbols and common medical terms. 

 

Physical Therapy Aide

Prepares students for the growing field of Physical Therapy. The Physical Therapy Aide is generally responsible for carrying out the non-technical duties of physical therapy, such as preparing treatment areas, ordering devices and supplies, and transporting patients working under the direction of the physical therapist. 

 

 

 

Physicians Medical Office Assistant

Covers important background information on the medical assisting profession and interpersonal skills, medical ethics and law, medical terminology, basics of insurance billing and coding, telephone techniques, scheduling appointments, medical records management and management of practice finances. 

 

Veterinary Assistant

Covers interpersonal communication, interaction with clients and their animals, as well as how to assist the veterinarian during examinations including hands on labs. Administrative duties, such as fee collection, banking, and accounts payable are also emphasized to provide the skills necessary to maintain an efficient front office.  

 

Health Unit Coordinator

Includes interactive lecture, labs and exercises designed to review medical terminology, methods of effective communication and progressive management techniques. Includes demonstration and performance of multiple exercises in the complexities of transcribing physician’s orders; patient chart documentation; HIPAA regulations; dietary orders; vital signs documentation; ordering of diagnostic and therapeutic testing.

 

Home Healthcare Aide

Emphasis is on giving personal care in a client's home, communications, working with ill persons, basic human needs, eldercare, nutrition, special diets, and home management. Detailed course topics and review include: the role of the home health aide, client relationships, infection control, hospice care, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, dressing and personal grooming, foot care, nutrition and other relevant topics. 

 

Histology Technician / Assistant

Introduces the professional requirements of a Histology Assistant. Histology Assistants typically work in hospitals, clinics, and laboratories assisting histologists and pathologists to prepare and analyze tissue specimens from patients in order to diagnose and treat diseases. Reviews human anatomy emphasizing the recognition, composition, and function of organ systems including skeletal, nervous, circulatory, endocrine and reproductive system tissues.

 

Hospital Billing & Coding

Offers content including how to navigate the complexities of CPT, ICD-10, DRG and HCPCS coding methodologies as they relate to inpatient and outpatient hospital billing and coding. Key topics reviewed include the skills necessary to: manually file claims (CMS-1500 and UB-04 Claim Forms); trace delinquent claims and appeal denied claims; monitor compliance with regulations; and to extract coding information from the medical record.

 

Intravenous (IV) Therapy

Provides the necessary skills to safely perform IV therapy. Professionals providing IV therapy must continually keep current as IV Therapy continues to change. Includes instruction on performing IV therapy with a focus on anatomy and physiology,  asepsis, the equipment and supplies necessary, review of drug calculations, pharmacology as it relates to IV therapy, and the practice of starting and running an IV. 

 

Medical Manager Program

Designed to provide students with the opportunity to work with medical billing & coding software.  Includes a computer lab module which provides the opportunity to complete on-line billing forms for third party insurance reimbursement. How to select the right code, navigate billing toolbars, print and edit completed forms and other day to day practical computer coding skills are covered in the computer portion as well.

 

Opthalmic Assistant

Prepares students for entry level positions in Ophthalmology, one of the fastest growing healthcare segments.  Content includes: anatomy and physiology of the eye; general principles of pharmacology; prescriptions written for the eye; visual acuity; and tonometry (basic) and glaucoma.  

Patient Access & Registration Professional

Covers important background information on the healthcare profession including: interpersonal skills; patient confidentiality; medical ethics and law; medical terminology; basics of insurance billing and coding; telephone techniques; scheduling appointments and medical records management. 

 

ECG/EKG for Nurses

A valuable resource for nurses to learn the fundamentals of reading and interpreting ECGs, this course includes nine instructional modules with quizzes, ten exercises to practice reading and interpreting ECG strips, and a comprehensive course exam.

 

Certified Nursing Assistant

Designed to prepares individuals to become a Nursing Assistant and to pass the Certified Nursing Assistant examination. This course meets the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) federal requirements for training long-term care nursing assistants to provide basic care. Content includes nursing theory, skills and clinical practice.    

 

Surgical Technician Program

Content covers the surgical technician’s role beginning from pre-op preparation, during the operative procedure and finish with post-operative room break down. Content includes the history of surgery; introduction to the operating room; the legal aspects of surgery and the surgical technician; policies and guidelines: introduction to human anatomy, surgical instruments, operating room equipment, operation, and maintenance; introduction to patient preparation; as well as other key concepts.

 

Polysomnography / Sleep Technician

Designed to prepare for work in Polysomnography (Sleep) Laboratories. Polysomnography is the study of sleep patterns and abnormalities. Students study encephalography (EEG), the study of electrical activity of the brain, electroculography (EOG), the study of electrical activity of the eye, and electromyography (EMG), the study of the electrical activity of muscles. Content also covers electrocardiology (ECG), the study of the electrical activity of the heart as well as effects on the respiratory system.

These professionals must possess the technical skills necessary to service complex patient care issues including: rehabilitation services, diagnostic tests, basic bedside care, collection of laboratory specimens, Phlebotomy and EKG’s.  In addition to practicing and demonstrating EKG, Phlebotomy and base line nursing skills, content includes: medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and miscellaneous patient care concepts.  Other topics include: HIPAA; vital signs; patient care; personal hygiene and grooming and aseptic technique among others. 

 

Medical Coding - ICD-10

A detailed review of both ICD-10-CM (clinical modification) and ICD-10-PCS (procedural coding system). Additional program elements include: differences between ICD-9 and ICD-10; federal regulation/compliance; using the ICD-10 Manual; how and when to use the ICD-10-PCS; issues surrounding the implementation of ICD-10; documentation challenges; analyzing electronic coding tools; coding from chart notes; coding from operative reports; and detailed hands on coding exercises and case studies using ICD-10. 

 

Pharmacy Compounding & Sterile Preparations

Prepares for work with Sterile Compounding, IV Admixtures and Aseptic Techniques. Includes a key review and extensive demonstrations and labs covering the following: aseptic/sterile techniques; IV Admixtures; critical area contamination factors; environmental monitoring; facilities; equipment and supplies; sterile pharmaceutical calculations and terminology; sterile pharmaceutical compounding documentation; quality assurance procedures; aseptic preparation procedures including proper gowning and gloving technique; handling of cytotoxic and hazardous drugs; general conduct in the controlled area; as well as other important topics, demonstrations and labs.

 

Chiropractic Assistant

Prepares students for a career as a Chiropractic Assistant in the expanding field of chiropractic healthcare through both classroom lecture and hands-on labs. Includes an overview of administrative front office duties; chiropractic and patient education issues; anatomy and physiology; chiropractic terminology; chiropractic billing & coding; and the legal aspects of chiropractic care. Also includes review "therapeutic skills" including: massage basics; vital signs; T.E.N.S.; ultrasound; cryotherapy; and other therapeutic modalities.
